Why Xiaohongshu for Travel Research
Unlike TripAdvisor or travel blogs, Xiaohongshu posts are written by people who actually live in or recently visited the places they're describing. The content is:
- Hyper-local: Posts about specific neighborhoods, lesser-known temples, local markets, and off-the-beaten-path spots
- Practical: Real tips like "arrive before 8am to avoid queues" or "the north entrance is less crowded"
- Visual: Every post has photos, so you can see exactly what a place looks like before you go
- Current: Posts are dated, so you can find recent information about current conditions
Xiaohongshu is primarily in Chinese, but the photos and visual content are universally useful. You can use Google Translate or Pleco to translate posts you find interesting.
