— which in turn charges your Visa or Mastercard — is the cleanest way to pay for taxis and ride-hailing cars without cash or a Chinese bank card.

Setting Up Alipay as Your Didi Payment Method

  1. 1. Open Didi and go to Payment Settings

In the Didi app, tap the profile icon (top left) → Wallet → Payment Methods → Add Payment Method.

  2. 2. Select Alipay

Tap Alipay from the list. Didi will redirect you to the Alipay app to authorize the connection. Tap Authorize or Agree when prompted.

  3. 3. Confirm Alipay is set as default

Back in Didi's Wallet screen, tap on Alipay and set it as the Default Payment Method. This ensures every ride charges automatically without needing to select it each time.

  4. 4. Take your ride

Book a ride normally. When the trip ends, the fare is automatically deducted from your Alipay balance or linked Visa/Mastercard. No manual payment needed.

Didi also accepts WeChat Pay directly. If you already have WeChat Pay set up, it works the same way. Alipay is preferred if you haven't set up WeChat Pay — you only need one payment method, not both.

How Alipay Charges You

When a Didi ride ends, Alipay receives the charge and processes it against your linked Visa or Mastercard. The flow is:

Didi → Alipay → Your Visa/Mastercard

You don't need to open Alipay or do anything — the payment happens automatically in the background. You'll see the deduction in your Alipay transaction history and, after a day or two, on your card statement as a foreign currency transaction.

Fares and Fees

  • Didi fares in major cities: ¥20–60 for most city trips, ¥80–200 for airport runs
  • Alipay charges no fee for processing the Didi payment
  • Your bank's foreign transaction fee (0–3%) applies to the underlying card charge
  • Didi prices are metered — no negotiation, no surge tipping, receipts available in-app

Practical Tips

  • Always confirm the car: When your driver arrives, verify the license plate matches what the app shows before getting in.
  • Share your ride: The Didi app has a "Share Ride" button — send the real-time location to a friend or family member for safety.
  • Airport pickups need a terminal: At major airports, Didi has designated pickup zones by terminal. Enter the correct terminal number in the app pickup point — if you don't, the driver will wait in the wrong area.
  • No cash needed: With Alipay linked, you never need to carry exact change or negotiate fares. The driver can't change the price after the trip.
  • Receipts: Tap your ride history in the Didi app to see full receipts for expense reporting.

Troubleshooting

Alipay authorization failed in Didi? Make sure you're logged in to Alipay first, then retry the authorization from Didi's payment settings. If you have a VPN active, turn it off — Alipay blocks authorizations over VPN.

Ride charged to the wrong payment method? Go to Didi → Wallet → Payment Methods → tap Alipay → Set as Default. Future rides will use Alipay automatically.

Payment declined after the ride? Check Alipay for a declined transaction notification. Your bank may have flagged it — open your banking app, approve the transaction, then go to Didi → My Orders → tap the ride → Pay Now to complete the charge.
